POSTGRADUATE PROGRAM IN BYZANTINE STUDIES

The MSc Byzantine Studies of the Department of History and Archaeology of  the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Ioannina provides to a small number of graduates, after entrance exams, expert studies, which lead to the acquisition of a Master’s Degree. It also leads to the award of the degree of Doctor of Philosophy after the completion of a Phd thesis. The MSc’s specializations are:

• Byzantine History and
• Byzantine Archaeology and Art

The Sectors of i) Ancient and Mediaeval History and ii) Archaeology and Art History participate in the MSc Byzantine Studies.

The main axes of the MSc can be summarized as:

• High-quality postgraduate studies
• Specialized and in-depth training in the modern approaches of Byzantine Studies
• The promotion of new technologies in the research and study of Byzantine Studies
• The provision of the necessary skills needed for working in the public, private or academic sector.
• Competent studies that will further lead to Phd thesis

The MSc Byzantine Studies leads to the acquisition of a Master’s Degree whose specializations are:

-Byzantine History

-Byzantine Archaeology and Art

Graduates of Departments of History and Archaeology, as well as of other related subject areas of Greek or peer-recognized foreign Institutions, are being accepted to the MSc Byzantine Studies. The MSc’s duration is 4 (four) semesters.
