1. Graduates of Greek or peer-recognized foreign Institutions, owning a degree whose subject area is related or associated to that of the MSc Byzantine Studies, are admitted to the MSc, according to the 1st article of ν. 4485/2017. Graduates of non-related Institutions are also admitted with the additional obligation to successfully attend two courses of their specialization and one of the other, during the first year of their studies. The courses are defined by the Board of the MSc.
2. Candidates’ selection is carried out after the publication of an announcement regarding a specific number of posts, as defined in the next paragraph. Entrance examinations are held during the first fortnight of Oktober every year.
3. The distribution of the students’ posts according to their specialization, applies as follows:
Specialization of Byzantine History: 10 (ten) post
Specialization of Byzantine Archaeology and Art: 10 (ten) posts
4. Every year the Department of History and Archaeology publishes an announcement for the selection of the students of the MSc.
5. Candidates’ selection for the MSc is made by a Committee of Professors established by the decision of the Department General Assembly following a proposal of the Board of the MSc. The list of the students admitted to the MSc, is confirmed by the Department General Assembly.
6. The minimum requirement for the submission of an application is a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) of "Very Good" or at least an average of "Very Good" (6,50) in Byzantine History, Byzantine Archaeology and Byzantine Philology classes as well as a certificate or the knowledge of English language at B2 level. In addition to results of the written examination, the scores in courses relevant to the subject of the MSc, the knowledge of other foreign languages and the relevant research or professional activity of the candidate are taken into account for the selection.
7. Candidates for admission to the MSc must submit an application to the Department's Secretariat within thirty working days from the date of publication of the announcement. The application must be accompanied by:
A) A curriculum vitae of the candidate (which will include a thorough self-evaluation of the candidate's interest in the MSc, as well as any other material documenting the candidate's scientific activities).
B) Copies of degrees (including a foreign language degree in accordance with the previous paragraph) and recognition of equivalence (in case the degree was awarded by a similar institution abroad).
C) A University exams transcript.
D) Photocopy of the identity card.
8. The evaluation of candidates in the two programs will be carried out by:
A) Written examinations in Byzantine History for the course on Byzantine History and in Byzantine Art for the course on Byzantine Archaeology and Art, as well as an oral examination performed on a foreign language text relevant to the subject matter of the chosen course.
B) Oral interview.
The subject matter in which candidates will be examined will be announced each Academic Year together with the announcement for the posts.
9. The eligibility of postgraduate students in both programs will be based on the following criteria, on a percentage basis:
A) Written examinations 50%
B) Oral interview 10%
C) Degree score 20%
D) Score in courses relevant to the subject of the MSc 20%
10. The eligibility examinations of the MSc are organized by the Admission Committee, which is established by the Department’s General Assembly on request of the Board of the MSc. The final selection of the candidates is approved by the Department’s General Assembly following the recommendation of the Board of the MSc.
